AresVista
Everyone remembers Napster, right? I mean, it was the peer to peer software that everyone was using back in the late 90’s. Things quickly changed though because they got slapped with a lawsuit. Ever since other peer to peer (p2p) software has surfaced. To put it mildly, most of it is terrible. You pretty much have to allow malicious software onto your computer (viruses and spyware) just to be able to use the things. It can be extremely irritating.
A few days when deciding to screw some of popular ones people are using today, I decided to search for something different. I came across Ares Vista. Ares Vista (the latest Ares version), based on its screenshots, had everything I wanted. It had an easy to use search interface. The design of it was clean and without junk scattered everywhere. I did not want something highly technical; I just wanted something that would work.
I decided to install it and was pleasantly surprised that I was not bombarded with requests to install extra browser toolbars. As well, my virus detection did not detect anything. To this date, I have not had any problems with unwarranted ads appearing or anything like that, so I am quite pleased at the moment.
Another thing that had me thinking was that there may not be enough users to really justify utilizing their network. They promised a large user base on their website, and they did come through. I used the little simple search that was built in to Ares Vista (the latest Ares version), to come up with several results. I found multiple people that had the files I was looking for readily available.
I honestly do not have any complaints with the latest Ares version, Ares Vista. It did exactly what I wanted it to do. It had the interface and simplicity that I was looking for. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a simple p2p application with a large user base.
