The Joy of Laughter

The Joy Of Laughter
Americans in general have forgotten how to laugh and just enjoy life. We can’t see the joy and beauty that surrounds us every day. We have grown accustomed to overlooking things like rainbows because we’re spending so much time working and trying to schedule every aspect of our lives that we have no time to actually live life. We spend too much time tending the garden and worrying about the weeds that we don’t take the time to appreciate the fruits of our labor and see the beauty of the flowers we have grown.
As Americans we are so caught up in the day to day of making a living and providing for our families that we get mired down in it. We forget that providing for our families doesn’t just mean giving them all of the material things that they want and need. It is also about giving them our time, attention and love and getting it in return.
Most of us have said that one of the greatest sounds in the world is a child’s laughter. That is absolutely true. A child hasn’t yet been programmed to sensor their joy and appreciation of life. What comes into their little minds comes out their little mouths. They can still find fun in everything that they see and do.
Adults have lost some of the spark and zest for life that children still have. We have become hard and unfeeling to the normal every day things that used to intrigue us as children. It takes more to amuse us.
Maybe that is what’s wrong with our country today. We just need to have more fun and quit taking ourselves so seriously. We need to become more childlike and see everything with fresh eyes and a new perspective.
Just watch a child play. They can be all by themselves or with a group and they will have the most fun they have ever had with a simple cardboard box. To them it isn’t a cardboard box anymore. It’s a castle where an evil witch lives with her dragon and they need to save the princess. Yes, they are going to get dirty but they don’t care. It isn’t like they can’t be cleaned up later. There isn’t time to worry about things like that when there is a dragon to be slayed.
At some point in the growing up process, we lost the joy of life and the inspiration to live it. We were happier when we didn’t take everything so seriously. Maybe we need to get back a little of our youthful enthusiasm and laugh at ourselves more often. If we could do that this world would be a much nicer place to live in.
